Raw Food Cures From God

Posted on 20:22 by Unknown
I found this article through my NOAH (Nourishing Organics Affectionate Homes) group. I will be posting some information that I've learned through this amazing group of women. If you are in the Des Moines area or live in Iowa, please join this group. Teresa, the group leader, has been (and still is) the most influential part of my decision to live a healthier lifestyle. I met her almost three years ago and thank God that He brought her into my life when I started researching on how to have a healthier lifestyle for my family. I bought two books at the time that she confirmed were the best books to start when you want to turn your health around naturally: The Maker's Diet by Jordin Rubin and Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (Look at the Bookworm Collection on the right sidebar) . I will be sharing a lot of valuable information from these two books. I HIGHLY recommend all of you to run to your nearest library and check it out or order it off of Amazon.com (Bookworm Collection: click on the "buy now" and it will take you directly to Amazon).

Now, I just love how God is so good to provide for the body's needs. When God created the earth, He wasn't just making a ball with a pretty garden on top. He had a specific plan for EACH plant and food that He brought up from the earth. He knew (and still knows) what our bodies need to survive even today where there is so much pollution and toxins all around us. I always tell people: Eat God-made food, NOT man-made food. So, if you look at the ingredients on your bag of chips or soda, is the ingredients made by God or by man? Was it grown from the ground or made in a chemical lab? Chew on that for a while.

Raw Food Cures From God
by
www.SixWise.com

Raw food proponents have long been spreading the word that a predominantly raw food diet will give you more energy, slow down aging, improve your skin, boost your mood, and fight a host of chronic diseases including chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn's disease and even cancer. Walnuts are a perfect example of the doctrine of signatures; they look like little brains, and they contain omega-3 fats, which support brain health.

Yet, long before that, sometime in the early 17th century a German mystic named Jakob Bohme realized a philosophy known as "the doctrine of signatures." According to Bohme's writings, the doctrine of signatures refers to the notion that God marked objects with a sign or "signature" revealing their true purpose. The original theory has been traced back to Galen, a well-known physician and medical researcher around 159 A.D. What does this have to do with food? The doctrine of signatures says that plants look like the body part they're meant to heal, nourish and support.

''God created plants,'' Dr. Stephen H. Koslow, director of Neuroscience and Behavioral Science at the National Institute of Mental Health told The New York Times of Galen's realization, ''as a provision for the health of human beings, and left a sign on them -- some feature of their shape, color, habitat or behavior -- for human beings to decipher.''

Many scientists call the philosophy superstition and mere coincidence, but those in the natural health arena believe God left us these clues on purpose so we could nourish our bodies.

Which Raw Foods' Appearances Reveal Their Uses?
Take a look through the list below and decide for yourself … do raw foods contain clues from God?

1. Sliced Carrots:
They look like the human eye (complete with pupil, iris and radiating lines), and research shows carrots enhance blood flow and function of the eyes.

2. Tomatoes:
Like your heart, a tomato has four chambers and is red.
Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is excellent for your heart.

3. Grapes:
A cluster of grapes is shaped like your heart, and each grape could be a blood cell. Science shows that grapes are nourishing for your heart and blood. (NOTE: seeded grapes are better because they have lower sugar count. Eat the seeds, they are full of antioxidants!)

4. Walnuts:
These wrinkly nuts look like little brains, which makes sense considering walnuts help develop more than three dozen neurotransmitters for brain function, and are a rich source of brain-healthy omega-3 fats.

5. Kidney Beans:
Of course these look like your kidneys, and they contain nutrients that can help maintain and heal kidney function. Kidney beans are also an excellent source of the trace mineral, molybdenum. This mineral helps detoxify sulfites, a type of preservative added to many foods (and to which many people are sensitive), from the body.

6. Celery, Bok Choy and
Rhubarb:
These and other rigged, ribbed veggies resemble your bones. They are also 23 percent sodium -- just like your bones -- which is important since your body will pull sodium from your bones if it doesn't get enough from your diet.

7. Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears:
Ever notice how these raw foods resemble a woman's womb and cervix? Well eating one avocado a week has been found to help balance hormones, prevent cervical cancer and help women shed birth weight. Ironically, it also takes nine months for an avocado to grow from blossom to ripened fruit.

8. Figs:
These fruits are full of seeds and hang in twos while growing. They're also known to increase the number and mobility of sperm and help overcome male infertility.

9.
Sweet Potatoes:
These veggies look like your pancreas and help to stabilize your blood sugar levels and lower insulin resistance. They're even known as an "anti-diabetic" food.

10. Olives:
Shaped much like a woman's ovaries, olives actually support the function of the ovaries.

11. Oranges, Grapefruits and Other Citrus:
These resemble mammary glands, and the fruits assist the health of the breasts.

12. Onions:
These look like your body's cells, and science shows that onions help to remove waste materials from your body's cells.

How to Get the Most Benefit From These Food "Cures"

Alive in 5: Raw Gourmet Meals in Five Minutes is the perfect cooking companion for anyone who wants to explore raw food cures from God, or simply get more fresh, healthy and great-tasting foods into their diet -- but doesn't have a lot of time to do it.

Going along with the doctrine of signatures, it's been said that God put everything on the earth -- land, plants, animals and fish -- so that humans would have all they need to survive.

Raw food advocates maintain that eating those plants in their natural form, raw, is the best way to get their nutrients.

"When you cook something, you destroy the enzymes," said Karyn Calabrese, a well-known raw foodist in the Chicago-area in an NBC5 article. "You need enzymes for every metabolic purpose in your body. When you lose enzymes, that's when you die."

Raw foods, advocates say, are also higher in vitamins and nutrients, which are also destroyed by cooking.

If you would like to try out some delicious raw food recipes for yourself, Alive in 5: Raw Gourmet Meals in Five Minutes, is highly recommended. Even those who are new to raw foods will enjoy the simple recipes (most can be prepared in five minutes!) for lasagna, spaghetti marinara, stuffed mushrooms, broccoli in cheese sauce, apple pie and more. They're healthy and delicious, whether you're a raw foodist or not!

French Toast With A Tropical Twist

Posted on 22:06 by Unknown

Growing up, french toast was always a 'once in a while' special treat that my mom made. Now I make it almost every Saturday morning. How can I not?! It is sooo yummy, comforting and a nice break from the week of breakfast smoothies, eggs, veggies, toast and oatmeal.

I have tried many different recipes and finally had to create my own version. I adore the rich, creamy, chunky feel from the sauce and crispy, flaky texture of the bread. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I do!!

Coconut French Toast with Honey Mango Sauce
By Marillyn Beard

Makes 4 servings

2 cups chopped mango
1/2 cup plain yogurt (or kefir)
1/4 cup raw honey

-Combine mango, yogurt and honey. Set aside.

4 free-ranged eggs
1 cup coconut milk* or regular milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. fresh nutmeg* (plus extra)
1/4 cup coconut flakes (plus extra)
8 slices whole wheat bread (or bread of your choice)
4-6 Tbsp. Coconut oil (or butter)

-Start warming skillet with coconut oil. Mix together milk, eggs, vanilla, nutmeg and coconut flakes. Soak bread slices in mixture for 10 seconds (or longer, depending on the thickness of bread) on each side. Make sure skillet is nice and hot. Move soaked bread onto the skillet and heat till golden brown on both sides. Serve with a spoonful of sauce on top. Sprinkle it with extra coconut flakes and nutmeg. Enjoy!!

*If using coconut milk: The milk sometimes comes out thick from the can. Thin it down with a little water to match the consistency of regular milk OR don't worry about it ;o)

*Fresh nutmeg: Find whole nutmegs and grate them when needed. The smell and freshness will make you never touch ground nutmeg again. Oh yes it is that good!

Naomi: What's That Noise? / My Life As Being Deaf

Posted on 11:06 by Unknown

This is been Naomi’s question for the last month and still is today. Its pretty funny having my two year old ask me, “Mommy, what’s that noise?” I really wish I could describe HOW she says that question, so cute! Well, how is a deaf mama supposed to answer that one!! I’ve been waiting and expecting the typical “why” questions that most two and three year olds start asking, but instead I am trying to find clever ways to answer the “noise” question. “It’s the washing machine, I think” “That was a car, I think” “The floor is creaky, I think” “The fan is making that noise, I think” “That’s Lina barking, I think”. Getting the idea?

Yes, it is challenging being deaf. Life is very different for me. I have to have a personal secretary, which my wonderful hubby has volunteered to be. I can’t make typical phone calls so he does that for me when he has time (talk about a flexible job!). I do my best to do everything on email or text messaging, but most times it is easier for him to make the calls. Especially now that we live in a Spanish speaking country. I can read and write in Spanish, but not enough to get by on my own.

The hardest thing for me is being stuck between two worlds: The deaf world and the hearing world.

I am 100% deaf, but I can hear about 25-30% with my hearing aid. I can speak very well for a deaf person (which is not normal…a God-thing) and I am almost fluent in sign language.

Most of you are probably thinking, “What do you mean ‘almost’ fluent?”

Well, speaking English is my first language. Sign language is my second. Why? Because, as a child, I was put in a special speech therapy program where they wanted to see how successful it would be to help me speak instead of sign. So, that put me on a strict rule of “no sign language” allowed. Well, I did better than they expected me to do. It is a miracle that I can speak as well as I do. I am thankful for that gift from the Lord. Later I learned sign language on and off through out my young years. I never really embraced it till my hubby (Jon) and I became missionaries at Rancho Sordo Mudo. That is where I felt most comfortable (first time in my life) with my deafness/hearing impairment. That is also where my ability to sign blossomed. I am forever grateful to God for the two years we were there. He brought me to a place where I was able to “accept” my deafness. I am also grateful for all the kids who impacted me and helped me and showed me the beauty of being deaf. God was so good to put Jon and me there for that short time to show me that there is nothing wrong with being deaf.

2005 / Me and The Girls @ Rancho Sordo Mudo

So, I am labeled “hearing impaired” by the deaf world. I am not “deaf enough” to be completely in the deaf world (because I can speak good, hear, etc.). I am labeled “deaf” by the hearing world. I am not “hearing enough” to be completely in the hearing world (because I have a hearing aid, speech impediment, etc.). So, I have one foot in the deaf world and one foot in the hearing world. It’s not easy doing that. Only those who are like me really understand. It is hard to explain the challenges because I can’t begin to describe what it is like to be deaf. After all, I’ve never heard like a hearing person in my life!! So, how is a deaf person supposed to describe the world he/she is in to a hearing person?

Here’s my best explanation.

It’s like reading a book. A hearing person generally can read (hear) every word and maybe misses one or two words out of a whole paragraph (conversation). A deaf person can’t read (hear) every word and WILL miss several words out of a whole paragraph (conversation). The words they miss…they have to make quick guesses in their minds on what words they missed and piece it together to fully understand a paragraph (a conversation).

To put it simply, it’s like playing Mad Libs. You have a paragraph with blanks scattered throughout. You have to fill in the blanks according to verbs, nouns, pronouns, etc…to pull together a “complete” paragraph. After you do that…what happens? You are either right on or totally off the wall silly. Now, imagine how easy it is for a deaf person to misunderstand the paragraph (conversation) because of the need to fill in the blanks where they missed words and pull together a quick summary of where the storyline is going. It doesn’t always make sense and it’s easy to feel dumb. Especially when the deaf person is expected to ask a question to keep the story going when they aren’t fully sure what the story is about to begin with.

Now, do you have a pretty good idea of what my daily life is like for me? It can be tiring reading lips (group conversations wear me out), putting it all together in my head and making sure I understood. Especially when I have a 2 1/2 year old already making full sentences and trying to carry on conversations with me. Whew! BUT I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! God had many reasons for creating me to be deaf and one day I will know those reasons, can’t wait! :o)

Growing up, I always thought I was healthy. We made most of our meals from scratch and my mom never allowed Tuna Helper in the kitchen. We ate our veggies and fruits... drank our full of dairy for "calcium", but we also enjoyed lots of ice cream and cookies. I never had a weight problem and was a very active person (swimming, riding horses & more), but I remember clearly making a decision to stop drinking soda after I joined the high school swim team because I wanted to be healthy. That planted a seed that obviously blossomed later on...

My interest in truly healthy, wholesome food begin when I was first pregnant with Naomi. My interest began innocently with High Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated Oils, then it snowballed into an avalanche of many other things. Like many mothers, I desired the best for my growing babies and that started the hard, long process of re-learning what a nourishing, healthy lifestyle really looks like. I was very "healthy" according to the American standards, but I had to re-define what the term "healthy" really meant.

My first book of wholesome education was "The Maker's Diet" By Jordan Rubin and from there I learned about the book, "Nourishing Traditions" By Sally Fallon. Now, 3 years later... I haven't looked back once. I've learned (and still learning!) how to incorporate Nourishing Tradition's way of preparing food into our life and enjoying the benefits of a wholesome diet. We enjoyed discovering that healthy food does taste delicious, as well as being so good for us!

Come, learn along with me as I share information, recipes and my life here at Just Making Noise! I pray that you will be encouraged, educated and edified as you come and go.

Many blessings!
